The Moon's 27 resting places
The Moon takes about 27 days to circle the zodiac, so the sky was divided into 27 nakshatras — one for each night's stay. Each mansion has its own ruling planet, symbol, deity and flavour, adding a fine-grained layer beneath the familiar signs.
Why they matter
Your Janma Nakshatra — the nakshatra the Moon occupied at your birth — colours your temperament and drives the Vimshottari Dasha system that maps out the timing of your life.
